Throughout its centuries-long history, Klanjec has been the birthplace and home of many figures who left their mark on Croatian history. Among the most prominent are sculptor Antun Augustinčić, painter Oton Iveković and writer Antun Mihanović, author of the lyrics to the Croatian national anthem. In their honour, Croatian painter Maja Vukina Bogović created an impressive mural covering more than 150 square metres on the slopes of Cesarska Gora, which rises above the town. Featuring portraits of these distinguished figures, the mural tells a unique story and offers an extraordinary experience dedicated to individuals whose work shaped Croatian history and culture. Equipped with climbing gear and suspended from the rock face, the artist painted the portraits with technical assistance from members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service. Her exceptional courage in undertaking this demanding project has given her home town a striking new landmark.

The project was implemented with the support of the Fund for Associated Tourist Boards and in cooperation with the Pearl of Zagorje Tourist Board, the Town of Klanjec, Krapina-Zagorje County, the Croatian National Tourist Board, Hrvatske ceste and the Zlatar Bistrica Station of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.

Do not miss this unique site, where art, history and Croatian national identity come together.
